Elia Awarded Mellon/ACLS Fellowship

Matthew ("Matt") Elia, PhD candidate in the Christian Theological Studies track, has been awarded a Mellon/American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Dissertation Completion Fellowship.  Elia is one of 67 applicants to be chosen for the prestigious, 12-month award for which there were in excess of 1000 applications this cycle. The DCF program represents a partnership between the Mellon Foundation and ACLS to support scholars working to complete dissertations in a timely fashion., and carries with it a full stipend, research funding, and partial tuition funding. Elia joins the over 800 fellows who have been awarded the honor since 2006.

Elia's dissertation topic is "Ethics in the Afterlife of Slavery: Race, Augustinian Politics, and the Problem of the Christian Master." We look forward to the great work he will do with the financial freedom this fellowship allows.
